David Turnbull kept a low profile as the after-match spotlight settled on him after Celtic’s 3-2 win over Lille.
It was just his second start of the season as a Celtic player with expectation sky high as Celtic fans looked for a glimmer of light in what has been a season of misery, frustration and anger.
Turnbull started in the side away to St Johnstone on October 4 but was on the bench as Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala performed a rescue act before Celtic’s season nose-dived.
With each depressing result the clamour for something different, anything, grew with many fans looking on at the £3m midfielder that had barely had a look in, partially not helped by picking up the virus on duty with the Scotland u-21 side.

Your smile walking off the pitch summed it up.
Good reason to be pleased.
You knew and so did we.

The something different worked wonders, there was some good, positive early touches as the former Motherwell man pushed forward before his inviting corner was glanced into the net by Chris Jullien in the 22nd minute.
Turnbull was now into his stride, playing in an advanced midfield role and posing a threat with his set-piece delivery.
After 85 minutes he was replaced by Tom Rogic, sitting back in the stand as Celtic saw through their victory. The adulation of a full Celtic Park was missing but if he cared to look his performance was lighting up Social Media.
