Long established blog Celtic Quick News has claimed that Keith Jackson wasn’t contacted by a source close to Dermot Desmond to explain why Neil Lennon would be staying on as Celtic manager.

Normally a report will quote ‘a club source’ or ‘a Celtic insider’ when passing something on but on Tuesday Jackson was more specific as he discussed the impact of a ‘baying mob’ of Celtic fans.

Celtic supremo Dermot Desmond has chosen not to axe Neil Lennon because he was so disgusted by the baying mob calling for the manager’s head after Sunday’s defeat to Ross County.

Record Sport understands the club’s majority shareholder is ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with Lennon for the time being and offer him a last chance to turn the club’s season around, starting on Thursday night at the San Siro.

Sources close to the Irish tycoon have revealed Desmond was outraged by the violent protest which saw fans clash with police following the Betfred Cup collapse.

Celtic fans were surprised at the outlet chosen for that message, under Ronny Deila’s reign Jackson had had his access to press facilities for matches and media conferences withdrawn by Celtic.

Desmond’s only media interview this season was with The Athletic which was widely reported elsewhere in the media.

Taking the report in the Daily Record to task, today on CQN, Paul 67 reports:

You would not be reading this if you thought a banned Daily Record journo got a line from those who banned him on Dermot Desmond’s musings.  It just didn’t happen.  The tabs are also keen to squeeze every drop from Sunday’s incident.  It is an open goal they are going to batter at for as long as possible.

Much as some fans might dislike the MSM they remain the chosen outlets for Celtic to get messages out to vast audiences, even ahead of their own in-house media.

Apart from a statement on Tuesday night Peter Lawwell has kept a very low profile this year. An interview on Celtic TV pre-match would be the perfect outlet for the CEO to speak to 50,000 Season Ticket holders but so far he has avoided that option.

Neil Lennon remains in charge of Celtic, taking the team to the San Siro tonight to face AC Milan.
