Rumours of Celtic’s interest in Jack Ross have gone mainstream with a report in Edinburgh Live claiming that Hibs are aware of the possibility.

During the week a Celtic statement admitted that Neil Lennon’s position would be reviewed in the new year on the back of a distressing run of form and supporter anger and unrest.

Last night’s win over Lille earned Celtic some breathing space but after being knocked out of three competitions before the end of November the manager’s job is far from secure.

Ross impressed at Alloa and St Mirren before a mixed spell at Sunderland ended in the sack but in a year back at Hibs he has impressed without pulling up any trees.

Edinburgh Live, part of The Scotsman Group reports:

Hibs are aware of suggestions Celtic will make a move for Jack Ross if Neil Lennon leaves the club soon.  The Easter Road boss is understood to be highly-rated within the Celtic setup with members of the board keeping a close eye on his progress through his career.

And Graeme Mathie admits he isn’t surprised clubs are looking at Ross and hailed him as a top coach and manager, but insists he’s going nowhere soon.  Ross has impressed since returning to Scotland with Hibs after a spell at Sunderland and Mathie hopes nobody will coming in for hi in the coming weeks and months.

During his time at St Mirren Jack caught the attention of Brendan Rodgers, visiting Lennoxtown with Lewis Morgan moving to Celtic from the Paisley side.

Boardroom relations between Celtic and Hibs have been frosty for some time but most manager’s will have an exit clause on their contract. When Celtic were last looking for a new manager they appointed a former Hibs boss.
