Neil Lennon has spoken optimistically about adding some quality to the Celtic squad when the transfer window opens in three weeks’ time.

January is viewed as the time to revive a squad but for Celtic this window has been something of a disaster in recent times. The aim is to find players that hit the ground running but few recent additions have managed to make the sort of impact that Kris Commons managed in 2010 when he joined from Derby County for £300,000.

Last January Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro were signed up but it was the return of Leigh Griffiths and a switch to playing 3-5-2 that drove the club on to win the title.

The least said about January 2019 the better but it’s fair to say that Vakoun Bayo, Timo Weah, Oli Burke, Marian Shved, Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez aren’t likely to feature in Lennon’s plans going forward.

Speaking to the Daily Record the Celtic boss said:

We have identified areas where we want to add and we are working away in the background on that. Hopefully, we will get a bit of business done that will freshen things up and, hopefully, add a bit of quality to the squad.

During the summer window Vasilis Barkas, Shane Duffy, Moi Elyounoussi, Albian Ajeti and David Turnbull were brought in.
