According to Neil McCann the etiquette of the game don’t allow Panenka style penalties!

The former Hearts star likes to come over as mild mannered and mellow as he resumes his media career but players are entitled to take a penalty kick any way that they wish, even Celtic players.

In 1976 Anton Panenka put his name in the history books as Czechoslovakia clinched the European Championships with a cheeky penalty against the then World Champions West Germany.

Numerus players have replicated the technique including Andre Pirlo but it seems that McCann has a problem with Odsonne Edouard scoring in that manner against his old club.

As Craig Gordon dived to the side his former team-mate chipped the ball slowly high into the net to the disgust of the Hearts keeper. Gordon could have stood his ground and made the easiest save of the match and given his side a much needed boost.

In disgust the Hearts keeper picked the ball out of the net and threw it at the Celtic players celebrating the goal to earn a yellow card from referee John Beaton.

Luck was on Gordon’s side in the penalty shoot out as he saved from Ryan Christie but two saves from Conor Hazard meant that it was a runners-up medal for Gordon and the sympathy of BBC pundit McCann.
