After being invited to Celtic’s pre-match media conferences this season the fan-based site The Cynic has had their access denied.
Being able to ask a question or two from the viewpoint of a fan rather than the predictable content of traditional broadcasters has been a refreshing change but seems to have fallen foul of someone inside the club.
Fan media provides incredible coverage for clubs, by nature it is biased and supportive but when things aren’t going well, with one or two blinkered exceptions, they will call things out and take those responsible to task. Providing cheer-leading services is pointless.
The Cynic is a subscription service which provides daily content on a variety of topical matters that reflects the interests of supporters.
It seems that some of their content isn’t welcome but that is unlikely to hinder The Cynic and others as they deliver for supporters while the club website publishes an article or two a day with Twitter content rarely going beyond passing on Birthday wishes to players past or present.
Celtic TV consists of match action plus pre and post match interviews with Neil Lennon.
The Cynic would like to clarify that, while we have not been invited to recent press conferences, we have not been given any specific reason for this by the club.

Clearly what you should be doing is producing a range of lurid factually incorrect pieces with even more lurid headlines on a regular basis. That seems to guarantee SMSM seats at the table unaffected…

Don’t always agree with everything I hear on the Cynic, but as fan media who genuinely care about the club you should have a presence at every press conference. Bad craic from the club, reminds me of the old board’s attitude to Not The View in the 90s.

So this what happens when you criticise – -disgraceful will be given it more than a club stuff in April/may

Happy to have the sun and record their but won’t invite fan media. That’s the club in a nutshell. Grossly out of touch

I don’t doubt someone behind the doors of Celtic Park listens to the Cynic weekly and other fan media to take a pulse, and has decided it no longer suits the party line
