With the transfer window opening at the weekend it looks increasingly like Shane Duffy is surplus to requirements at Celtic.

Over the last two matches Nir Bitton and hris Jullien have partnered Kris Ajer ahead of the on-loan Brighton defender with that situation highlighted in today’s win over Dundee United.

When Jullien injured his leg early in the second half Neil Lennon had a big decision to make over who was to come n and play alongside Ajer with Celtic leading 2-0. Rather than go with the man on loan from the EPL he opted to pick the guy that has never been a first choice central defender after being squeezed out of contention for a place in midfield.

Last month Video Celts reported that talks had been held with Brighton over cutting short the loan deal for their defender. With Duffy relegated to fourth choice defender at Celtic it looks like he’d be as well being back at his parent club than being far down the pecking order at Celtic.

Duffy’s time at Celtic has been eventful, whatever happens he has a Scottish Cup winners medal for his efforts but as he sat in the stand of an empty Celtic Park today an early exit looks increasingly likely.
