Scott Arfield is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.
The Canadian soccer legend appeared as a 76th minute substitute against Hibs on Saturday but six minutes later he was helped off the pitch with his left knee looking unstable.
Arfield, who celebrated his 32nd birthday at the start of November, has been a key figure in Mister Gerrard’s side this season but will miss Saturday’s Glasgow derby as his club waits for more scans to pick up the full extent of the damage caused.
Gerrard told the Glasgow Times:
The scan came back and we are just waiting on a few more opinions on it. We’ve had one opinion on it and he will obviously be missing in the short term. He will definitely be missing for a few weeks, that’s for sure but in terms of the exact date or time, it’s very difficult right now. He will certainly miss the next two or three fixtures.
Ryan Jack will also be missing at the weekend with the former Aberdeen ace last playing on November 22 against his former club.
After 21 SPFL matches the Ibrox club have yet to have a penalty awarded against them with Bobby Madden picking up the baton for that record in Saturday’s Derby visit from Celtic.
