Davie Provan believes that Neil Lennon is on probation rather than enjoying a Vote of Confidence from Dermot Desmond.

Since losing to Ross County in the Betfred Cup the Celtic board has been forced into issuing two statements backing the manager against demands for change from supporters.

Beating Lille in midweek ended a five match run without a win but any slips this month could be fatal for Celtic’s trophy hopes and Lennon’s future.

A new look side played with fresh energy got the better of the French side with a repeat of that performance and attitude needed to see off Kilmarnock tomorrow.

Viewing the situation in The Sun, Provan writes:

Across the river, there will be no respite for Neil Lennon who finds himself walking the high wire. One more league defeat before the Old Firm game and he’s a goner.

Spare me the nonsense that he got a vote of confidence from Dermot Desmond. The Irish billionaire has put Lennon on probation when he should have backed him or sacked him.

The Hoops boss has six games to save himself. And if he picked the side that beat Lille with Sunday’s opponents Kilmarnock in mind, he might have stumbled on something. Sure, they leaked two poor goals again but this was more like a Celtic team.

David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro must start versus Kilmarnock alongside Callum McGregor. At just 21, Turnbull ticks all the boxes required of a midfield player and on his first start, 22-year-old Soro was terrific with and without the ball. Between them, they got the ball forward early when too often it’s been going sideways.

Lennon was appointed as Caretaker boss in February 2019 after Brendan Rodgers moved to Leicester City, following the Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts he was given the job on a permanent basis with a 12 month contract.
