Benji Siegrist is reported to be a January transfer target for Celtic.

The keeper has been at Dundee United for two years, playing a key role in promotion last season and looking comfortable in the top flight.

Siegrist was outstanding against Celtic in August and will be under the spotlight next Wednesday when United make their first visit to Celtic Park since being relegated at the end of the 2015/16 season.

The Daily Mail has been a strong source of Celtic transfer stories in recent times but it is difficult to see Siegrist as an obvious improvement on the three keepers that have been used this season.

Conor Hazard has played in the last three matches but had some nervy moments at Hampden on Sunday before pulling off two penalty saves to clinch the Scottish Cup.

In the summer a fee of £4.5m was used to secure Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens but the new bhoy and Scott Bain had a torrid time losing 17 goals in five Europa League matches although a constantly changing central defence didn’t help the cause.

Siegrist, who will be 29 at the end of January started his career at Aston Villa but never made a first team appearance amid various loan stints before joining United in the summer of 2018 from Swiss side Vaduz.
