Atlanta United- who have a link up with Aberdeen through Dave Cormack- have ‘acquired’ Celtic defender Andrew Gutman.

The 24-year-old has had a very complex couple of seasons which included a training stint at Murray Park before signing for Celtic in January 2019 without a work permit to play in the UK.

Gutman played in friendlies as a trialist against St Mirren and Arbroath but his signing was made without any fanfare, media conference or photo-shoot.

Second tier side Charlotte Independence took the left-back on loan for the 2019 season with Gutman joining Celtic to play in pre-season matches in Austria and Switzerland.

In 2020 he stepped up to play for Cincinnati in the MLS but with no sign of an international cap or Work Permit it seems that he is about to move on again.

The Federal News Network reports:

ATLANTA UNITED — Acquired D Andrew Gutman from FC Cincinnati in stage 1 of the 2020 MLS Re-Entry Process.

As a signed Celtic player it seems odd that Atalanta United are signing the player from FC Cincinnati who simply had him on loan last season.

With a Celtic contract that runs until June 2022 it looks increasingly unlikely that Gutman will ever play in a competitive match for Celtic.
