The continuing Leigh Griffiths mystery

There was one name noticeably missing from Neil Lennon’s media conferences yesterday- Leigh Griffiths.

One way or another the striker has been in the headlines this season, as December begins he has started just one match, against AC Milan in October, and never came back out for the second half.

Griffiths came on as a substitute in all three of Scotland’s November internationals, earning praise and gratitude for scoring a penalty in Serbia after being thrown on in the closing minutes of the Play Off tie.

Back on club duty he again came on as a substitute, this time for 20 minutes, in the 2-2 draw away to Hibs but since then he hasn’t been cited.

That quote was eight days ago before the Europa League tie against Sparta Prague, on Sunday against Ross County he wasn’t listed among the substitutes.

In his broadcast conference yesterday Lennon wasn’t asked about Griffiths, it appears that there was no mention of the striker when the Celtic boss spoke with the written media.

In the training video released by Celtic yesterday there was no sign of the 30-year-old, it probably won’t be until late afternoon when the team and substitutes are named for the AC Milan match that fans will know if Griffiths is in Italy or not. Luca Connell who is ineligible for tonight’s match trained with the team as did David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro after they had to self isolate.
