Thomas Robert scored direct from a corner on Saturday as Airdrie won 4-2 away to Clyde in a ‘North Lanarkshire derby’.

The 20-year-old made the highly unusual move from French side to Montpellier during the summer, choosing the astroturf at the Penny Cars Stadium to kick-start his career.

With his dad a former Newcastle player (Laurent) the Airdrie winger is assured of extra attention with Celtic reported by The Sun to be showing interest.

It would be quite a leap to move from SPFL League Two to the top flight, in January 2018 Lewis Morgan struggled while moving from Championship leaders St Mirren.

With no cash coming in at the gate any transfer fee would be welcome by Airdrie with Tony Watt the last player to make the move to Celtic.

Robert has scored three times in seven SPFL starts as well as two appearances from the bench. Airdrie are currently in third place, four points behind leaders Falkirk. Ex Celt Josh Kerr was also on the scoresheet on Saturday.
