Sports Direct will have the club from Ibrox back in court tomorrow in the long running saga over matching rights and a case where the sportswear firm are expecting many millions of damages.

In the summer of 2018 Dave King and his boardroom colleagues thought that they had pulled a fast one when Hummell took on a three year deal to supply and retail club merchandise after a long drawn out bid to cut ties with the firm led by Mike Ashley.

Back in June 2017 Dave King declared himself the victor as Ibrox fans were ordered to snap up end of season kit, five months later the club accounts revealed that £3m had been paid to set up a new contract which provided Sports Direct with matching rights.

A full day’s hearing has been set aside tomorrow, starting at 10.30am under Lionel Persey QC

Sports Direct called a halt to the launch of the Hummell deal, kit wasn’t available for fans to buy until September 2018 with the Danish firm walking away with a year still to run on their contract while Ashley patiently went down the legal route for compensation. So far Sports Direct have been awarded costs with the Ibrox club paying for Ashley’s Legal Team.

Sports Direct have been vindicated with their claim with only the size of the pay out to be decided. The Ibrox club, now led by Douglas Park haven’t made any allowances for compensation with this season expected to exceed last season’s losses of £15.9m.

Castore Sport has taken on this season’s Ibrox kit deal with Sports Direct and House of Fraser their only partners.
