Within two hours of being sacked by Chelsea Frank Lampard was installed as 6/1 third favourite to become the next permanent manager of Celtic.

Betfair weren’t messing about as they installed the former England midfielder behind Rafa Benítez and Eddie Howe for the Celtic job with Neil Lennon’s exit appearing inevitable.

Switching straight from the EPL to the rebuilding job required at Celtic seems highly unlikely with Lampard likely to take some time out and media work before looking to return to management.

While Celtic fans wait for word on a managerial review Chelsea acted ruthlessly on a club legend, a player who won the Champions League for them as well as every honour in the English game.

Within 24 hours of beating Luton in the FA Cup Lampard was sacked leaving his successor with a place in the last 16 of the Champions League and fifth round tie in the FA Cup.

Former PSG boss Thomas Tuckal is in line for the Chelsea job with the basic target of a top four finish to ensure a place in next season’s Champions League.
