Celtic will start their defence of the Scottish Cup with a home tie against Arbroath or Falkirk.

The match is scheduled for the weekend of January 30 with Premier Sports deciding the slot which is the weekend between a home match with Hamilton Accies and Tuesday night away trip to Kilmarnock.

It looks like a fairly gentle opener with the main concern the Second Round tie at Gayfield going ahead on Tuesday night after yesterday’s postponement. All cup ties this season will be played to a finish with no replays.

There is a very tight timetable for this season’s tournament with Celtic’s defence of the trophy starting just five weeks after beating Hearts in the 2020 final.

No club had ever won the trophy four years running until Kris Ajer smashed his penalty past Craig Gordon with the bhoys now chasing an unprecedented fifth trophy win with the final played on May 8 with a few rounds of SPFL fixtures scheduled afterwards.
