Celtic miss out on Championship target

Celtic have missed out on the signing of Bright Osayi-Samuel with the winger reported to have agreed a deal to join Fenerbahce in the summer.

The 23-year-old has regularly been linked with Celtic during a stand-off with QPR about signing a new contract.

Celtic are short on wingers at the moment with Mikey Johnstone starting his first match in a year in the 1-1 draw with Hibs while James Forrest has been out injured since September.

Despite the contract issue Osayi-Samuel has played in 23 matches for QPR this season with Mark Warburton’s side slipping towards the relegation zone in recent weeks.

Celtic’s scouting focus has increasingly been on the English market since Nick Hammond took charge but with his contract running out it seemed that a bidding war was likely to since Osayi-Samuel.

The implications of Brexit have still to take root in football but with uncertainty over players from other markets signing from within the UK seems to be the safest option at the moment.
