Celtic’s disastrous Communications continued tonight with a five minute interview with Peter Lawwell.

Two days after a club statement that attempted to justify the disastrous training trip to Dubai the CEO got in front of the camera, apologised then went to great lengths to defend and justify a decision that very few supporters will back up.

It has to be assumed that the football department has to get permission from the CEO to go ahead with an expensive trip that involves chartering a plane and exclusive use of an area inside a five star hotel complex.

At any stage as the pandemic restrictions worsened in Scotland Lawwell could have pulled the plug but with families unable to meet up over Christmas it never occurred to the CEO that perhaps Dubai in January wasn’t such a good idea.

The disconnect between the club and supporters has never been as obvious since the days of Jack McGinn and Kevin Kelly, Lawwell’s video message emphasises that leaving many fans questioning the decision making at the top of the club.

From pictures of the manager and captain drinking poolside to watching a makeshift team drop points to Hibs the start of 2021 has been every bit as painful as the closing months of the previous year.

Five players that weren’t judged good enough to go on the Dubai trip were in the squad against Hibs while the CEO attempted a rallying call for everyone to pull together and get behind the club.
