There is no such thing as a quiet day at Celtic- especially with the pressure on Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell with the dreams of 10-in-a-row in tatters.

At the start of December Celtic promised their fans a managerial review in the new year but after four matches without a win in 2021 there has been silence from inside the club on the issue.

In 2019 when it was clear that there would be no extension to his Newcastle deal there were suggestions that Rafa Benitez could be on Celtic’s list of candidates to replace Brendan Rodgers.

There was no new deal with Newcastle but after winning the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts Neil Lennon got the Celtic job on a permanent basis with a 12 month rolling contract.

Now, 19 months later a number of scenarios are again being played out. Steve Bruce, Benitez’s successor at Newcastle is under pressure, as is Lennon with Eddie Howe the bookies favourite at both clubs’ to be their next manager.

With Benitez and his family living in Merseyside he will be well aware of the managerial situation in the UK, there has been little movement in England so far this season but things can change quickly.

It would be an incredibly bold move from Celtic to bring in the experienced Spaniard but in 2016 not many people were predicting a former Liverpool boss to succeed Ronny Deila.
