Marvin Bartley has hit out at the top spin applied by the Daily Record to his comments on Go Radio about the Celtic squad.

The Livingston midfielder didn’t play in Wednesday’s 2-2 at the Toni Macaroni but was involved at the weekend when the two clubs played out a goal-less draw in Glasgow.

On Thursday he appeared on Go Radio’s football show to discuss Celtic’s problems with the Record quoting him saying:

Personally, for me, I don’t need anyone to motivate me, I’m going out there to do something I absolutely love. For me, the minimum requirement is to give 100 per cent every single game. As a player, if you’re not willing to do that, especially playing at a club as big as Celtic then you are in the wrong sport, it is not acceptable.

Bartley flourished at Hibs under Lennon, adding some steel to a midfield that included Dylan McGeough, John McGinn and Scott Allan but after the Irishman left his contract wasn’t renewed with Livingston stepping in with the offer of a contract.

The 34-year-old is quite measured in his comments, offering constructive criticism rather than headline grabbing soundbites.

It seems that there is a template in operation at the Record that regardless of the content it is framed as an incredible attack on a group of players who have largely been responsible for winning the last 12 domestic trophies.
