Celtic fans were quick to put Piers Morgan right when he quizzed Twitter during Arsenal’s laboured FA Cup victory over Newcastle.
It was another uninspiring display from Mikel Arteta’s side that left the TV audience, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright numb with cold as they watched two hours of dreadful far occupying prime time viewing.
In less than 50 appearances Tierney has emerged as Arsenal’s best player, outshining far more expensive signings sitting on bumper contracts as the long slow decline of the club from the peak years of The Invincibles continues.
There is no sign of a Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp in the current Arsenal squad but with his performances and attitude the fans have a little glimmer of hope in the Wishaw bhoy that warms up in the snow wearing a T-shirt and takes his boots to matches in a Tesco carrier bag.
Now clear of injuries and the flow of dangerously late challenges that hampered his final season at Celtic KT is rated alongside Andy Robertson as one of the best left-back’s in England.
With Arsenal showing little sign of providing him with Champions League football there are bound to be other clubs ready to pay way more than the £25m it cost Arsenal to sign the defender from Celtic in 2019.
Great Arsenal mysteries of our time:
1) Why has goal machine Aubameyang stopped scoring?
2) What the hell’s gone wrong with Willian?
3) Why did we pay £72m for Pepe?
4) How did we get away with only paying £25m for Tierney? #ARSNEW— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 9, 2021

We sold Van Dijk for £12m. But yes, glad to see Tierney play well, hopefully means next time we can justify our valuations.

Tierney? Yous don’t rate the Scottish league but yous want players from it who are good enough to play in the EPL and pay a pittance for them. Tierney has been your best and consistent player all season. ??????

Tierney is the biggest steal from Scottish football since Liverpool got Kenny Dalglish
