The morning after the commentary before one Celtic fan was still feeling the pain of Peter Martin’s commentary of the defeat by St Mirren.
It was like a glorious throwback to the days when The Celtic View was known as Pravda for its ability to find a positive spin on the most distressing and depressing of results.
Apparently a 2-0 midweek win over Hamilton Accies had provided the team with a confidence boost but that wasn’t easy to detect as St Mirren set about ending a 31 year wait to win at Celtic Park.
By half-time the visitors were leading 2-1, rather than criticise any aspect of Celtic’s play St Mirren were transformed into a team of superstars. With goal-scorers joining from Grimsby and W Innsbruck (currently bottom of the Austrian League).
Apparently Celtic just had to raise the tempo and intensity during the second half, in stoppage time their best chance fell to Shane Duffy whose header was saved by Jak Alnwick. The last time the Saints keeper played at Celtic Park he was keeping the score down to 5-0 as Brendan Rodgers’ side clinched the 2018 title with a 5-0 Derby Day success.
After the final whistle Callum McGregor spoke to Celtic TV but fans had to make do with analysis from Gerry McCulloch, Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell with no sign of Neil Lennon.
During the week Martin hosts the PLZ Soccer Show that includes regular guests such as Steven Naismith and Charlie Adam.

Peter Martin now trying to convince us that St Mirren are on a par with Bayern Munich. It’s utterly ridiculous commentary and ignoring an abject Celtic performance.

Peter Martin saying Dennis movement causing them problems…ffs, my movement would cause them problems, and I’m slower than a week in Barlinnie ?

?? Listening to Peter Martin trying sell this as a decent performance on commentary is more enjoyable than the game ?
— The GSM (@lennonmustgo) January 30, 2021
Peter Martin described our 2-0 win over bottom placed Hamilton as “confidence boosting.”
The added value is just comedy value.

— Tony Jardine (@TonyJarine3) January 30, 2021
Writing was on the wall as soon as Peter Martin said they’ve not won at CP since the 90s. Breaking all the shite records this year.

So at 64 minutes Peter Martin says “there now seems to be a desire to try”. Is that a shameful statement by an awful commentator or a shameful observation??
— Keith McGregor (@KeithMcGregor67) January 30, 2021
Peter Martin – Celtic have a desire to try now. 64th minute of a 2-1 defeat at home to St Mirren in the 10 season.
