Nick Hammond was in Paisley today to watch St Mirren draw 1-1 with Motherwell.

Bringing in a central defender is the transfer priority for Celtic this month which points towards Celtic’s Head of Football Operations watching Declan Gallagher.

In midweek it was revealed that Gallagher was looking to get away from Motherwell before a clause in his contract triggeres a 12 month extension.

Covering John Kennedy’s media interview today The Sun reports:

Kennedy admits Celts are looking at targets after Christopher Jullien was ruled out for months. Former loan defender Filip Benkovic doesn’t appear to be one of them, but recruitment chief Nick Hammond watched Declan Gallagher in Motherwell’s 1-1 draw at St Mirren.

Gallagher moved to Motherwell in the summer of 2019 from Livingston and has gone on to establish himself in Steve Clarke’s international squad- keeping Scott McKenna and others out of the starting XI.

The 29-year-old is well known to the Celtic coaching staff having started his career in the same youth side as James Forrest before leaving without making a first team appearance.

Spells at Clyde and Dundee followed before he moved to Livingston where he helped them to back-to-back promotions then a very successful season in the top flight.
