Pat Bonner has told Celtic that they have no-one else to blame for a shambles of a season.

Peter Lawwell’s claim that the pandemic had hit Celtic more than anyone else didn’t go down well with fans as the CEO raked around to deflect from multiple failings going back to last summer.

Vasilis Barkas was brought in to replace Fraser Forster but missed out on pre-season training in France, by the time Ferencvaros denied Celtic £30m from the Champions League Albian Ajeti hadn’t completed his fitness programme.

Four consecutive home defeats and being knocked out of three cup competitions before the end of November should have brought about drastic change but the club doubled down to deliver the Scottish Cup with their title prospects in ruin less than 48 hours into 2021. And then they flew to Dubai.

Surveying the scene after a 0-0 home draw with Livingston, Bonner told BBC Scotland:

We’re not at the end of January and Celtic could be 23 points behind Rangers tomorrow, that’s quite incredible. It’s self-inflicted, bad decision-making. Business at the club has not gone well

The self isolation imposed after Dubai is lifted today with Lennon, John Kennedy and 13 players available for Wednesday’s match away to Livingston.
