Such is the apathy around Celtic at the moment that even potential good news is seen as a negative by some.

Ben Davies of Preston, a regular, time-served 25-year-old with good experience of the English Championship appears a clear upgrade on the current central defensive options available with Celtic close to agreeing a pre-contract deal.

Nir Bitton and Shane Duffy have been well short of what is required; with Jeremie Frimpong off to Bayer Leverkusen it’s reasonable to assume that Kris Ajer could be leaving the club this summer.

Preston fans seem to rate Davies highly but with his contract up in June everything is in the players’ favour as he looks to the future.

Some Premiership clubs and most ambitious Championship clubs will be watching closely but only a non-English club can come in and strike a deal just now which gives Celtic an advantage and the player some security.

Who is making the decision is the concern for Celtic fans, sceptical over the promised managerial review.

Celtic’s recent recruitment is nothing to be proud of with little sign of success from the £35m that Peter Lawwell boasted of spending since July 2019.

A deal has still to be completed, no one knows the views of the player but that hasn’t stopped fans from piling in with their opinions across Twitter.
