With rumours rife of a shake-up at executive level at Celtic, Fergal Harkin has been suggested as someone that could be brought in.

Peter Lawwell has ruled the roost for over 17 years, building a powerbase within the club but as his midweek interview demonstrated he no longer has a sure grip on matters with the season falling off a cliff highlighted by his handling of the Dubai trip.

No mainstream source has discussed a change in the way that Celtic operates but over the last few days there has been rumours on Social Media that Ross Desmond, son of Dermot is about to take on a lead role.

If that turns out to be true involving someone with inside experience of the football industry would be essential which points towards Harkin being part of a new look set up.

Brought up in Donegal he was on the books of Leicester City at the same time as Martin O’Neill and Neil Lennon were at the club. Later on he studied at University College Dublin while playing for a few clubs in the League of Ireland before spending six years with Nike and the last 11 years inside Manchester City, most recently as Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager.

That job title would have brought him into contact with Celtic through John Guidetti, Jason Denayer, Patrick Roberts and Daniel Arzani while giving him an insight into how a variety of clubs develop players.
