The Daily Record has published a brief and vague claim that Fiorentina are interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong.
At yesterday’s broadcast media conference Neil Lennon revealed that the 20-year-old was abroad discussing a transfer with an un-named foreign club.
Later on Bayer Leverkusen were identified as the club involved but at 10.27 on their rolling Transfer Blog the Record claimed:
Fiorentina have also made a bid for Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong. Neil Lennon revealed on Tuesday the right-back was abroad speaking to a club having asked to leave Parkhead.
He’s closing in on a switch to Bayer Leverkusen, worth in excess of £10m. Record Sport understands Celtic also received a bid from the Serie A outfit.
There was almost a complete black-out on speculation linking Frimpong with a move away from Celtic although there were reports last year of interest from Roma.
Celtic signed the then 18-year-old in September 2019 on a four year contract with no great expectations, Frimpong wasn’t listed in the Europa League squad but by the start of December he was in the starting XI at the League Cup Final.
With Hatem Abd Elhamed believed to be looking for a move back to Israel to be reunited with his family, Elhamed is also on a contract until June 2023.
