Ally McCoist has slammed Celtic’s training trip to Dubai as a stupid idea and called on Nicola Sturgeon to investigate it. The First Minister may have other more important matters to deal with.

Bringing in quotes from Nicola Sturgeon and the SFA admitting that there was nothing to investigate the former Ibrox boss sounded as if he was desperately trying to find a reason to criticise Celtic.

For various reasons- mainly trailing by 19 points in the league- the trip has been criticised by Celtic fans but it wasn’t an underhand bid to get around restrictions.

The trip was approved by the Scottish Government on November 12- the same date as the Scotland squad was filmed enjoying an alcohol fuelled Congo in honour of David Marshall. Away from their training set up there was no Social Distancing be Steve Clarke’s squad which was drawn from 10 different clubs.

Picking up on a reply to Chris Sutton on BT Sport, The Sun reports McCoist saying:

I hear what Chris is saying regarding not having broken any rules. Right, that’s fine, I get that but, c’mon guys, in the current climate, who in their right mind thinks it’s a good idea to go to another country with a group of players when there’s just been this second bout of the virus?

It’s a stupid idea in so many ways, so many counts. If the Government thought it was a good idea, why has Nicola Sturgeon asked the SFA to look into the matter?

If she deals with it how it’s required, she should be dealing with it herself but the fact she’s then asked the SFA would indicate to me she wants the governing body to do something about it, whether it’s have a look at it or whatever, I don’t know.

But they’ve chosen not to do it, because potentially they’re a little bit embarrassed for, again I use the word ‘stupidity’. In this day and age, I can’t go up and visit my 94-year-old mother!

Once the Lockdown regulations are released McCoist will be able to find time to visit his mum in-between media commitments with BT Sport, TalkSPORT, Sky Sports and others.
