Davie Provan has told Peter Lawwell that it is time to go- echoing the views of many Celtic fans.

The Celtic CEO has kept a low profile this season but broke cover in midweek to provide an in house video interview that had CAR CRASH stamped all over it.

After 30 seconds of a laboured apology Lawwell went to length to explain why Celtic went to Dubai- a week that killed off any faint hope of even putting in a challenge for the SPFL title.

The Dubai trip has provided cover for a horrendous season that included four home defeats on the bounce with Celtic out of three competitions before the end of November.

Why Chris Jullien was in Dubai will remain a mystery but with 13 players self isolating Celtic have dropped four more home points with the buck stopping at the CEO that has overseen this season and signed off the trip to Dubai.

Writing in The Sun, Provan explains:

Jullien should have been nowhere near Dubai. Instead, by coming back with a positive case, Celts have given hypocrite politicians a chance to put the stiletto in.

Some have questioned the morality of the trip during these difficult times. Apologies if this sounds harsh but it’s not for footballers to come out in solidarity with those of us who aren’t allowed out the house.

They have exemptions for a reason. Sport is the only thing keeping some of us sane at the moment. And trust me, if Celtic had beaten Rangers, which they could have, and left Julien in Glasgow, which they should have, rainforests of newsprint would have been spared.

But hey, it is what it is. Celtic’s season is over and we’re not yet out of January. Ten in a row lies in the gutter as Lennon limps on as a lame duck. Given the speed and scale of the club’s decline, it would be appropriate to hear what plans the board have going forward. If they have any, Lawwell wasn’t for sharing them.

Between now and the end of the season, Lennon will be the whipping boy for angry punters. But Celtic’s problems go all the way to the top. Had to laugh when hearing Lawwell urge supporters to help “take this magnificent football club as far as we possibly can”.

He’s right, it is a magnificent club. But it’s no longer in the right hands. The game is up Peter. Please go now.
