Marian Shved was the Mechelen hero tonight with two goals in their 3-2 win away to Waasland-Bevern.

At the start of his December his manager Wouter Vrancken slaughtered the winger, suggesting that he takes up billiards but it seems that that criticism has brought the winger to life.

Before the brief winter break Shved scored his first Mechelen goal in the 2-1 home win over Mouscron with the Ukrainian playing his way into the starting XI.

Tonight’s win made it four wins out of five for Mechelen, lifting them well clear of the relegation spots into 10th place in the 18 team Jupiler League.

Tonight’s goals were a nice combination, almost a throwback to the form that earned Shved a transfer from Karpaty Lviv to Celtic two years ago.

His first, in the 26th minute was the result of a great run into space and a deft finish that left the home keeper grasping at thin air.

Beveren battled back to level the scores but in stoppage time the on-loan Celt showed a strikers instinct to find space in the penalty box to direct his shot into the net to ensure full points for the visitors.
