Bobby Madden saves Steven Gerrard’s unbeaten record

Hamilton Accies were denied the opportunity to play against 10 men for 15 minutes in today’s 1-1 draw with Steven Gerrard’s unbeaten league leaders.

Bobby Madden was the difference between the two sides with a timely intervention in the 75th minute with Accies in control of the match.

Jamie Hamilton made a great run towards goal when he was cynically brought down by Filip Helander 25 yards from goal. At Ibrox last month Madden couldn’t wait to show a red card to Nir Bitton but with Hamilton preparing to shoot at goal the East Kilbride based official reached for a yellow card.

Soon afterwards the Ibrox men took the lead through a Brian Easton own goal but in stoppage time Allan McGregor spilled a header from Bruce Anderson with Ross Callachan knocking the rebound into the net off the ageing keeper.

Madden is just the latest in a long list of referees to demonstrate that they know what is at stake this season as Kevin Clancy revealed in pre-season.

So far this season the Ibrox side haven’t had a player sent off or conceded a penalty in 28 matches. In two domestic cup ties the Ibrox men have won one, lost one and conceded a penalty.

December 13- Steven McLean gives a yellow card to Alfredo Morelos for a first half forearm smash on Mark Connolly of Dundee United. The Ibrox men go on to win 2-1 and accept a two match suspension for Morelos.

January 2- Madden allows a stamp by Morelos on Jeremie Frimpong to go unpunished, he later sends off Bitton for a foul on the Colombian. Madden later puts both arms round Morelos to restrain him but issues no card.

January 27- Kevin Clancy refuses to red card Morelos for a stamp on Ryan Porteous, telling Jack Ross that it was a tangle of legs. Morelos scores the only goal of the game with another two match retrospective suspension from the SFA.

February 3- David Munro watches Kemar Roofe go over the ball to stamp on the lower leg of St Johnstone’s Murray Davidson and shows a yellow card. The Ibrox men win 1-0 with the SFA offering Roofe a two match suspension.
