Celtic reported to have stepped up interest in Scottish based 20-year-old

Transfer

Celtic are in talks with Airdrie about bringing Thomas Robert in for training.

The Airdrie winger, son of former Newcastle star Laurent, has been the subject of transfer speculation since December after impressing in League One.

With Scottish football below Championship level currently suspended Robert hasn’t played a match since January 10 against Edinburgh City with an update expected from the SFA on March 1.

Robert took the unusual step of leaving Montpellier during a pandemic to push his career in Lanarkshire on a plastic pitch but with regular first team football he has been attracting attention and scouts to Airdrie matches.

The Sun reports:

Robert, who has scored four goals in 14 appearances for the Diamonds, is set to train with Celtic ahead of a potential move in the summer. A deal for the star would represent the second piece of business done by the Parkhead men as they begin their rebuilding plans for the future.

The Diamonds are hoping to cash in with a transfer fee for a player who is under contract until the summer of 2022. It’s believed talks have taken place over training opportunities for Robert at Lennoxtown as the clubs edge closer to an agreement.

At the age of 20 Robert is almost out of the Development stage with first team football essential if his career is to move forward.

Taking a closer look at him at Lennoxtown would be a risk free move for Celtic although after more than two months without playing he will be at a big fitness disadvantage against the Celtic squad he would be working with.

Robert scores after 1 minute of highlights.
