Celtic fans hoping for a ‘dream ticket’ management team of Roberto Martinez have been given a subtle message to prepare for disappointment.
The Spaniard was linked with the Celtic job in 2009 but the club opted for Tony Mowbray with Martinez moving on from Swansea to take charge of Wigan where he won the 2013 FA Cup with Shaun Maloney in the side.
After a year coaching the Celtic reserve side Martinez brought Maloney into the Belgian international set up where he works with some of the best players in Europe and monitors their progress at club level.
You’re Belgium coach and technical director. You have a Euro and World Cup barely a year apart and a team with world-class talent in every department.
Would you leave for a Scottish club that’s in turmoil and about to sell its best players?

Zoom interviews a big feature of the past year and this one definitely among the most enjoyable.
Love that Roberto Martinez’s dad still calls to slate him on his tactics with the world’s No1-ranked team.
