David Low has compared the abuse suffered by Neil Lennon from opposing clubs across Scotland with the campaigning of many Celtic fans to get him to resign as Celtic manager.
At 7am this morning Celtic announced his resignation to the Stock Market.
As chairman of the Celtic Trust, Low is on dangerous ground criticising Celtic supporters. In December The Trust helped organise a protest outside Celtic Park that rallied behind the BACK THE TEAM, SACK THE BOARD slogan.
With the Celtic board backing Lennon as manager at the club AGM a few days later that protest seems to be at odds with Low’s sentimental tweet following the announcement this morning.
A year ago Lennon was held in the highest regard by the vast majority of Celtic fans even if the European defeats from Cluj and Copenhagen had reinforced concerns about his ability at that level.
Those worries were evident again when Ferencvaros ended Celtic’s Champions League hopes with another away win at Celtic Park.
The default position was that he would deliver a 10th successive title, the SPFL table and this morning’s announcement confirm that he wasn’t upto the task with ‘abuse’ from Celtic supporters simply a convenient deflection from reality.
Was at his debut in Dundee on 11 December 2000. Abused by Dundee fans in the beginning. Abused by Celtic fans in the end. Celtic then, Celtic now. Celtic forever? pic.twitter.com/6bJvFK6rmS

Ah the leader of the Trust being deliberately divisive, superb piece of leadership. From the excellent Jeannette Findley to yourself is strangely similar to the downgrade from Rodgers to Lennon.Hopefully ends up with your resignation as well

Disingenuous to compare the two “abuse” cases.
Lennon did very at the expense of another good Celt. He got his managerial break due to the high risk high reward nature of football management but somehow didn’t think those same rules applied to him.
Lennon then, Lennon now etc.

Pints on Lennon, David aye ?

It’s only because of his self interest things have ended this way. He could have walked months ago and saved his reputation and status but that is gone now. He has bailed just before Rangers win league at CP.

If he really loved the club AND had humility he’d have walked many times earlier this season. If he really thought he was the man to deliver the ten he was too arrogant.

He was treated with the exact same contempt in which he treated the fan over the last 8 months.

David’s his mate. He won’t criticise Lennon no matter what

I’m reminded of all the morons that abused Fergus McCann. Supporters should take responsibility for their own hate. All is not as it seems and all will become clear in time, just as it did with Fergus. https://t.co/lKv09kgccu
