Celtic’s new global business partners are trying to rewrite history by informing visitors to their website about a Glasgow rivalry with ‘Rangers’ dating back to 1888.

As anyone with a passing knowledge of Scottish football knows the Rangers club went into liquidation in 2012 after Her Majesty refused a CVA for over £20m owed in taxes dating back to the scams used to pay Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer.

For four months Duff & Phelps tried to find a buyer to take on the liabilities of the club and strike a deal with 267 creditors, including Celtic, Hearts, Dunfermline, Arsenal and Everton but no wealthy blue nose was prepared to take on the responsibility.

In the final derby match between the clubs Celtic ran out 3-0 winners with goals from Charlie Mulgrew, Kris Commons and Gary Hooper in May 2012.

With their aim of increasing Celtic’s global reach, getting the facts right rather than duping fans into an issue that has been dead for almost a decade is best addressed by Dugout.
