The SFA will claim that justice was done while the moon-howlers at Ibrox will have further fuel for their bizarre conspiracies.

Bottom line is that with 11 players on the park against St Johnstone Steven Gerrard’s side came away with full points from a match that they should have played the majority of with 10 on the park. Again.

Like Dundee United and Hibs, St Johnstone are the latest victims of refereeing incompetence in Scotland.

This time it was David Munro at fault, previously it was Steven McLean and Kevin Clancy. All three are assured of continuing Premiership appointments, picking up match fees of close to £1,000 plus very generous mileage and expenses.

McLean got the ball rolling at Tannadice on December 13 when he ruled that a forearm to the face of Mark Connolly was only worth a yellow card. A retrospective red followed, accepted by the club.

On Sunday McLean will referee St Johnstone v Celtic, three days later it’s St Mirren v Hamilton Accies. Good money if you keep hitting your targets.

In 2015 McLean’s refereeing career at the top level should have been ended following the Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle Scottish Cup Semi-Final. A year later he was rewarded with the Cup Final, the highest domestic honour for a Scottish official.

With that career path well established Munro knows the route to follow, his progress seems assured.
