In his 37 Celtic appearances John Colquhoun managed just four goals but one of them was to provide a heavy hint towards his next transfer and the most productive period of his career.
A few months after his £30,000 transfer from Stirling Albion he found himself facing Hearts, the team that would sign him just over a year later in a £60,000 transfer.
At Tynecastle the winger really made his name but as a Celtic fan he literally stepped off the terrace to play alongside legendary figures like Paul McStay, Danny McGrain, Tommy Burns and Roy Aitken.
To the untrained eye this might have looked like a goalkeeping faux pas from the big Yorkshireman but the amount of spin I put on the ball was similar to Roberto Carlos’ free kick against France that bent at a right angle I just had the ability to put more disguise on it ? https://t.co/LbOAGjlwiJ

Celtic were on their way to a comfortable win over Hearts thanks to a hat-trick from Brian McClair when Colquhoun found himself in a tight spot at the corner of the penalty spot. CLICK HERE for match report.
Flicking in a hopeful cross towards goal nothing seemed on until Henry Smith decided to flap at the ball as a harmless cross ended up in the back of the net.
That scene was almost repeated three years later at Hampden as Celtic snatched a late equaliser in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup when Smith dropped the ball at the feet of Mark McGhee. Taking full advantage McGhee scored a second goal in the 90th minute to book a place in the final against Dundee United.
