Chris Sutton has accused the Celtic board of bottling it over two critical decisions.

Management and recruitment are key to any successful side with the figures released by Celtic this morning in their Interim Results confirming how badly things have gone wrong.

Reaching the Champions League group phase through three more seeded ties would have transformed a six month loss into a very healthy profit while the failure in recruitment has left fans speculating over who’ll remain for next season rather than who will be leaving.

Nick Hammond has been Head of Football Operations since July 2019 which is exactly the time period that Peter Lawwell boasted of having spent £35m in.

Cluj and Ferencvaros have shown up Neil Lennon’s limitations with the perfect storm blowing Celtic’s season and the bwin welcome offer for many punters apart before the half way stage.

After announcing a Managerial Review in December, Chairman Ian Bankier tried to address the concerns of supporters this morning but it was as underwhelming as the performances that led to six home defeats before the end of January.

Sutton has watched the season unravel, starting off with the likely departure of Odsonne Edouard this summer he quickly got into his stride on the Record Celtic podcast (14 min)

Discussing Edouard Sutton asked on the Record Celtic podcast:

Who are you going to replace him with to get to that level, win you tight games and that is going to be the difficulty?

Nicky Hammond has one helluva job on and his track record has frankly been woeful at Celtic. There’s talk about a Sporting Director coming in now but Celtic need to get a Sporting Director in immediately if they want to move forward and actually challenge Rangers next season.

When you look across the city and see the Rangers squad there seems to be a bit of stability. We’re talking about Celtic, and I mentioned the starting XI against St Johnstone- how many players from that Starting XI are going to be here next season? There’s not many, maybe two or three. (Scott Brown and Tom Rogic were also mentioned as possibly surviving) That isn’t anywhere near enough and its something that needs addressing.

I know Celtic are saying that they don’t want to make any hasty decisions, they want to take their time and make rational decisions but there needs to be a decision already made over the manager for next season.

They just need to come out and say ‘Neil Lennon cannot be in charge at Celtic next season’. I don’t care if he wins every game until the end of the season, this season has been an absolute disaster.

Is Sutton right? Should Lennon and Hammond be binned?

Yes, this season can never be excused

No, they deserve another season

Edouard, Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie are out of contract in June 2022.
