James Tavernier is a shock injury doubt for tomorrow’s Europa League tie against Royal Antwerp.

The Ibrox skipper came through Saturday’s win over Kilmarnock without any noticeable issue but the club is now reported to be sweating over an injury.

Tav, as the former Wigan utility man is affectionately known, has started all 29 SPFL matches this season, eight of their nine European matches and also both of Betfred Cup ties.

On Sunday night the Ibrox club announced an internal investigation into a mystery event.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS are sweating over the fitness of James Tavernier ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp. The Gers captain is a shock injury doubt for the Belgium showdown after picking up a knock in training yesterday, according to the Daily Mail.

Tavernier – a virtual ever present for Steven Gerrard – faces a race against time to be fit for the last 32 meeting. Midfielder Ryan Jack is believed to be on standby to replace him as emergency right-back.

Tavernier has been outstanding for the Light Blues this season and would be a huge miss for the first leg match.

Murray Park starlet Nathan Paterson could step in to replace Tav with summer signing Calvin Bassey able to excel in either full-back position.
