Celtic fans can look forward to an autobiography from Alan Thompson later this year.

The midfielder was absolutely critical to the success enjoyed under Martin O’Neill with a string of big match goals, specialising in the derby fixture and a stream of assists to Henrik Larson with crosses from the left.

When O’Neill left Celtic the old guard slowly followed with Thompson moving on to Leeds United before hanging up his boots. Before joining Celtic he had made his mark at Bolton and Aston Villa.

These days autobiographies are expected to be more real life than Roy of the Rovers stuff with gritty details behind the highs and lows.

Judging by his Twitter content Thompson is likely to go for a warts and all approach with the inside story on how his relationship with Neil Lennon and job as assistant manager at Celtic ended in May 2012 soon after winning the SPL title.

Since then the former Celtic midfielder has only had a couple of short stints in management working alongside Lee Clarke at Birmingham, Blackpool and Bury.

Although it was just one appearance Thompson became the first current Celtic player to be capped by England, appearing in a friendly away to Sweden in 2004. Fraser Forster is the only other Celt to have been capped by England.
