Neil Lennon has confirmed that Celtic have signed Liam Shaw on a pre-contract agreement.

The teenager has made a big impact at Sheffield Wednesday but despite coming through the ranks at his boyhood club he has opted to move to Celtic next season.

Celtic have increased their scouting in England over the last few seasons with Jeremie Frimpong, Luca Connell. Jonathan Afolabi and Lee O’Connor all recruited through the same route.

During the January transfer window Celtic didn’t spend any money on new players despite appearing to have a major overhaul coming this summer.

Whether Lennon will be involved next season is debateable but so far it seems to be business as usual in terms of advance recruitment.

Discussing his own situation, The Sun reports:

Asked if that suggested he’d be still in place for next term, he responded: “I haven’t said that I wouldn’t be. I’ve not yet spoken to Dominic, but I speak to Peter every day. I speak to Dermot Desmond, I speak to Nick Hammond.

“We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So that’s done and we are looking ahead. We’ve got a bit of work to do.”

Shaw will be 20 next month and spent part of last season with Chesterfield, this season he has started nine matches in The Championship, came off the bench three times and scored one goal, against Middlesbrough.

At the end of this season Karamoko Dembele, Armstrong Oko Flex and Conor Hazard are expected to leave when their contracts expire.
