There seems to be little sign of anger or bitterness towards Liam Shaw from Sheffield Wednesday fans after his move to Celtic was announced last night.
The midfielder will turn 20 next month, with his contract up at the end of the season he has negotiated a move to Celtic with his club due to pick up a UEFA agreed Development Fee.
Just two seasons ago Sheffield Wednesday were paying out wages to Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher and Jordan Rhodes but those days came at a price with Financial Fair Play shrinking the wage bill with a six-point deduction applied this season.
Those circumstances allowed Shaw to get his top team chance but in the middle of a relegation battle Wednesday haven’t been able to make contract offers for next season, League One would involve a drastic loss of income alongside uncertainty over whether fans can return.
Whether Shaw will turn out to be a Frimpong or a Connell/Afolabi/O’Connor is the big question for Celtic fans with the same uncertainty over who will be his manager when he joins Celtic in the summer.
Wednesday fans seem to think that they have lost a pretty decent prospect- whether he can continue his development in the Celtic first team next season remains the bigger question.
I’m led to believe that Shaw has agreed a long-term deal and will join #CelticFC on July 1st.
He’s informed the club, and is determined to play his part in helping #SWFC survive. He’s fully committed to the cause. https://t.co/yXnSMEDSzV ???

Great move for him and I don’t blame him one bit for going but he shouldn’t be anywhere near the squad for the rest of the season.

He was full-blooded tonight. Fought for everything.

I highly doubt Shaw has texted Dom Howson after the game saying that he’s leaving so Dom can post on on twitter, to inform us fans! He may have decided weeks back he wanted to go but these days we have to rely on journalists with transfer news as our club are a joke

Anyone criticising him needs to think about it
-If true, peanuts offered by us,what I heard. ?????
-20 players are leaving in June, as it stands, they talk.
-what was he pitched as the plan going forward?
-Highly likely where league 1.
-Not been paid correctly. No brainier to go

Lads doing best for his career. Fair play to him. As long as we’re compensated properly. Don’t want another George Hirst situation

Cannot blame him, European football, chances of trophies, better paid.!! That being said don’t play him again for #swfc heads not up for the cause and will be scared to death of getting injured before his big move ??
