A report in The Sun claims that Fergal Harkin is in line to become Director of Football at Celtic.

The Irishman is currently Head of Football Partnerships at Manchester City with transfer specialist Alan Nixon linking Harkin with a role at Celtic under incoming CEO Dom McKay. During the summer Nixon was first to report Gavin Strachan’s move to Celtic as First Team Coach.

Harkin was released by Martin O’Neill at Leicester City and returned to play in the League of Ireland while he attended University College Dublin and picked up a Masters Degree in Business Studies.

As his playing career would down he took up a Marketing Job with Nike, for the last 12 years he has been working his way up the Manchester City empire.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC are eyeing up Manchester City transfer guru Fergal Harkin as their new director of football. Harkin is the football partnerships manager at megabucks Premier League outfit City.

The Irishman has a vast knowledge of rising stars as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom team. Harkin’s reputation has now attracted Celtic as they look to rebuild after their ten in a row flop.

He has been a leading part of City’s transfer network, deciding where young players go on loan and building a vast knowledge of the global market.

Harkin was first linked with Celtic three weeks ago by a member of The Huddleboard.

With Peter Lawwell finally stepping down in his 18th year at the club a major restructuring is expected with McKay scheduled to start work on July 1.
