Fourteen days after deliberately breaking Lockdown Rules Bobby Madden will referee Saturday’s match between Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies.

It seems like a remarkable decision from the SFA but with no comment over the five Ibrox Covidiots never mind a disrepute charge it confirms the feeling that the SFA make things up as they go along.

On February 14 Madden picked up a lucrative match fee plus two nights accommodation and first class travel in Athens to take charge of the derby clash between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos.

Unfortunately on return assistant referee David Roome tested positive through the private programme run by the SFA which meant 10 days self isolation for Madden and fellow official Graeme Stewart.

Keen to keep up their match fees and with a Europa League tie between Roma and Sporting Braga to look forward to the officials that should have been self isolating decided that they were above the law of the land.

Stewart turned up to be assistant referee as Hibs beat Hamilton 2-0 with Madden on route to the Ross County v Celtic match the following day when the intervention of the Scottish Sun alerted the SFA that their secret was blown.

Madden had to turn his car around, head home to East Kilbride to self isolate while the SFA apologised to Hamilton and Hibs for having an official that should have been self isolating in contact with their players and management.

In October the SFA showed their understanding of self isolating when they forced Ryan Christie out of four matches after claiming that he was in contact with Stuart Armstrong. Arsenal ignored the same instruction on Kieran Tierney.

As well as missing their Europa League match there was no appointments this week for Madden, Stewart and Roome but next week the East Kilbride based referee will be at Pittodrie. Stewart will be on the line at the Championship match between Alloa and Inverness Caley Thistle.
