After winning the Betfred Cup at Hampden today St Johnstone enjoyed a trip along London Road on route back home to Perth.

For four years, going back to December 2016 the trophy has been looked after by Celtic but after losing to Ross County in November that impressive run came to a halt.

In their third final St Johnstone lifted the trophy for the first time with Shaun Rooney, a relative of former Celtic trainer Bob Rooney scoring the only goal of the game with a first half header.

It was the second major trophy win in St Johnstone’s history, going alongside the 2014 Scottish Cup triumph over Dundee United at Celtic Park.

With Celtic dominating domestic football in recent years the Perth side are now the second most successful in the last decade with Callum Davidson claiming a trophy in his first season in management.

Former Celt Jamie McCart, whose only top team appearance was a Betfred Cup win over Motherwell in 2016, excelled in central defence just over a year after being transferred from Inverness Caley Thistle.
