The dress sense, or lack of, from Gordon Strachan and Tosh McKinlay created almost as many talking points on Celtic TV as the 1-0 victory for Neil Lennon’s side.

Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell have been on duty for recent matches but stepping back a generation provided plenty of talking points.

Strachan Snr has developed an impressive two tone set of whiskers which makes him look more like his son sitting in the Celtic dug-out with one eye on his laptop.

McKinlay opted to turn the clock back to the early days of last century with headwear straight out of Peaky Blinders.

There wasn’t that much for the two men to analyse beyond David Turnbull’s 14th minute goal that delivered all three points for the home team. During the interval Celtic TV showed the goals from a 3-1 win at Pittodrie in 1982 with Strachan not the only one to enthuse over the quality of a Celtic side that included Paul McStay, Tommy Burns and Murdo MacLeod against an Aberdeen side that was less than 18 months away from beating Real Madrid in the final of the Cup Winners Cup in Gothenburg.

Fashions come and go but 39 years later it was the hoops on top again tonight which seemed to put a smile on the faces of the Celtic TV duo.
