It was a case of men against boys as Paul Merson tangled with Kris Boyd during Sky’s Soccer Saturday.
Among the limited talent pool available to the Scottish media the former Kilmarnock ace might be viewed as some sort of intellectual heavyweight but they don’t suffer fools gladly in the big league.
As the pundits discussed a 21 minute appearance for Callum Hudson-Odoi at Brighton the previous week Boyd was out of his depth, living up to his early nick-name of Trigger.

Hudson-Odoi was a half time substitution for Chelsea away to Southampton but recognising the embarrassment of the situation Boyd spoke up for the player when he was then replaced in the 76th minute.
Thomas Tuchel is in at the sharp end of management, a top four finish this season is the reason that he replaced Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
Merson knows what is at stake, the prizes and repercussions for failure, as Boyd spoke from personal experience the joke was on him as Merse and crew took full advantage.
