Tom English has doubled down on his claim that it is weird that Dundee United have employed an Indian teenager as part of their Analysis team.
Some might think that it is weird for the British Broadcasting Corporation to employ a rugby expert born in Ireland as their chief reporter on Scottish football.
During his time in newspapers English was famed for his fawning coverage of Sir David Murray and was still backing Craig Whyte to turn things round at Rangers even after James Traynor and the Daily Record had given up on their billionaire hero from Motherwell.
Through nothing other than ability Manish Pandey has been employed by Dundee United, he’ll likely report his analysis and findings to someone other than Micky Mellon. His salary is likely to be much less than English’s deal with the British Broadcasting Corporation.
If Pandey doesn’t meet the demands of his job he won’t be retained by Dundee United, as many like to say it is a results driven business as English discovered when sales at Scotland on Sunday crashed through the floor.
At one stage the Edinburgh based broadsheet had Graham Spiers, Kevin McCarra and Jonathan Northcroft on their pages. When they weren’t replaced like for like the inevitable happened.
The Scottish football weird-o-meter is hitting a new high with this. This lad gets paid by Dundee United?! https://t.co/0Cc5ykH87Y

This is the difference between journalism and analytics. We can co-exist happily, but bloody hell, digital football writers are an incredibly sensitive lot if this is anything to go by

Hmm. It’s ‘weird’ that you cant seem to grasp the point here. The scenario is weird, not the person, not the article. Anyway, Crack on

What’s weird about it? ?

You prove my point nicely, Fred. Many thanks

You said something that was totally inaccurate, Stefan. Do the right thing

“I assess our own performance…Not just in terms of quality but also to see whether we’re playing the way we set out to…”
Good luck to him, but if you don’t think that scenario is weird then you have a higher threshold than I have

Football analytics are great. So is not over-reacting to a comment about a scenario that is unquestionably weird.
