After one match on loan at Queens Park Luca Connell has been called into the Ireland u-21 squad to face Wales on Friday.

The midfielder has dropped out of the international set up since joining Celtic in June 2019 but now has the chance to play his way back into favour at international level.

Although born in Liverpool the midfielder has been in the Ireland international set up since u-17 level, making his debut in a green shirt against Macedonia in March 2018.

The call up will probably put Connell out of Queens Park’s match away to Brechin City on Saturday but after 20 months with little game time he’ll be pleased to be back in action at any level.

With major change expected at Celtic this summer Connell will be looking to make an impact in pre-season training with Scott Robertson and Kerr McInroy also returning from loan spells.
