Andrew Gutman has joined Atalanta United on a permanent deal- two years and zero appearances after apparently signing for Celtic. He has istantly been passed on to New York RB.

The defender wasn’t granted a Work Permit and spent his Celtic career on loan to American clubs with the Work Permit requiring an unlikely international breakthrough.

Gutman was initially on trial at Murray Park in December 2018 when he was lured across the city, playing in friendlies against St Mirren and Arbroath as a trialist before signing a contract although there was no media conference for the deal.

Since his signing as a free agent Celtic have added Boli Bolingoli, Greg Taylor and Diego Laxalt with the 24-year-old American never in contention to make a breakthrough.

Tonight Atlanta United announced:

Atlanta United today announced it has signed Andrew Gutman to a three-year contract with an additional option year from Celtic FC. In a subsequent move, Atlanta has sent the left back to New York Red Bulls on loan for the duration of the 2021 season in exchange for the club’s natural third round selection in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft and up to $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money if specific performance conditions are reached.

Gutman, 24, signed with Celtic of the Scottish Premiership in January of 2019. He later joined FC Cincinnati via loan on Aug. 3, 2019 where he made 29 appearances and 20 starts for the club through the 2020 season.

Manny Perez was signed at the same time with Vakoun Bayo, Marian Shved, Timo Weah, Oli Burke and Jeremy Toljan also snapped up during Brendan Rodgers’ final transfer window. Within a month of that window closing Rodgers joined Leicester City.

Last week Celtic announced that Cameron Harper had joined RB New York.
